UW-Green Bay Career Services recently announced the recipient of its 2012 Recruitment Partner of the Year award. Health insurance company Humana, which first partnered with UW-Green Bay in 2004, has been selected as the recipient of the annual award.

During the past nine years, Humana has listed more than 100 jobs, participated in job fairs and conducted campus interviews. Since 2011, the company has enhanced its relationship with UW-Green Bay by becoming involved in class presentations, providing program support and sponsoring programs with Career Services and the Austin E. Cofrin School of Business.

More than 80 UW-Green Bay alumni are current Humana associates, and more than 15 UW-Green Bay alumni were hired in the past 18 months.

The Recruitment Partner award was first given in 2007, with past recipients including Integrys (formerly Wisconsin Public Service), Schenck, Arthritis Foundation of Northeast Wisconsin, Glen Tilot with Brown County Human Services, and Schreiber Foods.

We included a link to this story in last week’s LOG Extra (the “photos-in” weekly version of this newsletter) but for the benefit of our daily readers who don’t get that e-mail, here goes: When Humana, a health insurance provider, decided to partner with UW-Green Bay Career Services nine years ago, it was a commitment both organizations took seriously. As acknowledgment for Humana’s long-lasting commitment to UWGB students and graduates, Career Services presented the company with the 2012 Recruitment Partner of the Year award. Among the award recipients of the 2014 WPS Volunteer Awards today (April 10) was UW-Green Bay alumnus Glen Tilot. Tilot, a social worker with Brown County Human Services, received the Schneider National Foundation Volunteer Leadership Award. UWGB has long recognized Tilot’s impact to campus and community. In 2010 he was named UWGB’s Recruitment Partner of the Year. Tilot has personally supervised close to 100 students for various fields of study as interns and volunteers. The event was held at the KI Convention Center, downtown Green Bay.

What do you do if a piece of food slides off your plate at a business luncheon? Is alcohol ever acceptable? Is it okay to take home a doggie bag?

The answers to these questions could be found at UW-Green Bay Career Services’ Dine Like a Professional event Monday, March 2 at the Weidner Center for the Performing Arts. The luncheon allowed students, faculty, and community members to network and enjoy a meal together.

The two-hour luncheon was led by “Chef Jeff” Igel, the chair of the Culinary Arts and Hospitality Department at Fox Valley Technical College in Appleton. Igel led the luncheon in spring 2013, and was asked to return after rave reviews.

“Etiquette is a set of rules we live by,” Igel said, “Manners are the way we put those rules into effect.”

The professional chef began teaching etiquette out of necessity 16 years ago. According to Igel, his students had no clue how to navigate the complexities of a business luncheon.

Along with providing tips and tricks to help attendees navigate the world of networking luncheons, the approximately 120 attendees, half of which were students, were treated to a delicious meal courtesy of The Marq.

Between the humor and tips was one overarching message: Etiquette is always about others, not yourself.

“It’s all about the perception of your personal choices,” said Igel.

Igel stressed that those in a business luncheon should remain aware that everything they do, from the beverage they drink, to the amount of leftover food on their plate, is on display for the others to judge.

With the meal etiquette, Igel provided etiquette advice for all types of business settings, including at the office, while communicating, and while networking.

But the luncheon wasn’t solely focused on etiquette. Career Services used the opportunity to award the Recruitment Partner of the Year award to ACUITY. Acuity was honored for its exceptional commitment to Career Services’ mission — providing learning opportunities for students in their field of study, supporting professional growth and career development of students, and active recruitment of UW-Green Bay students and graduates. The longtime partner has represented at 35 job fairs since 1997. At present, about 40 UW-Green Bay alumni work at ACUITY, with at least four more students joining the organization after spring graduation. Igel closed the luncheon by stressing the importance of finding something in life that you are passionate about and committing to it.

“You make a living by what you get,” he said, “You make a life by what you give.”

The luncheon was one in a series of events held by Career Services to prepare students, especially graduating seniors, for career experiences. The lunch was followed on Wednesday, March 4 by the Spring Job and Internship Fair, which brought more than 80 employers to campus to recruit students, as well as a LinkedIn Photo Booth. By the way, the answers to the questions posed in paragraph one, above? What do you do if a piece of food slides off your plate at a business luncheon? Discreetly place it back on the plate. Is alcohol ever acceptable? With dinner, in moderation, yes, but it will never hurt you if you don’t consume it. Is it okay to take home a doggie bag? No.

UW-Green Bay’s Career Services has recognized Baker Tilly as the 2016 Recruitment Partner of the Year award for their exceptional commitment evidenced by support and opportunities for students and graduates. “Baker Tilly has engaged with our campus and our students in countless ways,” said Director of Career Services Linda G. Peacock-Landrum. “Our office and our campus both are truly fortunate to have a partnership with them.”

GREEN BAY – The University of Wisconsin-Green Bay’s Office of Career Services has named Dental City as its 2017 Recruitment Partner of the Year, continuing a tradition of community partnership that emphasizes hands-on learning. Dental City received the award at UW-Green Bay’s Etiquette Luncheon, Feb. 19, 2018.

Over the past five years, the alumni at Dental City have been engaged with the campus and students in numerous ways. They return to campus to speak to classes, make presentations to student organizations and regularly attend events like the “Dine Like a Professional Etiquette Lunch” to support and engage our students. Dental City has been a four-time job fair sponsor, a three-time PRO sponsor and a two-year sponsor of Business Week with the Cofrin School of Business. This organization was also instrumental in the first Communication Week, established in 2017, with the co-owners, both alumni, serving as keynote speakers for the banquet.

Dental City has a strong affiliation with alumni, with both co-owners of the company and 17 other employees being UW-Green Bay graduates. They also have employed seven student interns, with three still interning there today.

Headquartered in Green Bay, Dental City was founded in 1993 by John Mathys ’87 (Business Administration), Dave Withbroe ’87 (Business Administration and Communication Processes), and Roy Stumpf. Built from scratch, they pride themselves on gaining their customers the old fashioned way, with superior customer service and fair prices. The organization serves more than 10,000 dentists, buying groups and other individuals straight out of their corporate headquarters and 40,000 square foot distribution center.

UW-Green Bay Career Services chooses an organization or community member to receive the annual award based on their exceptional commitment to Career Services’ mission of creating learning opportunities for UW-Green Bay students in their fields of study, whether through internships or other hands-on experiences. Missed with the busyness of the year, but still important to the campus community, is the announcement that Wipfli was named recruitment partner of the year. Since 2007, Career Services at UW-Green Bay has recognized an employer partner, which shows exceptional commitment evidenced by support and opportunities for our students and graduates. This employer partner also demonstrates comprehensive support for the mission of Career Services. This year that recognition went to Wipfli CPA and Consultants.

The organization has hosted student events and receptions on campus, as well as frequent meetings with faculty and staff to maintain our strong partnership.”

UW-Green Bay has also benefited from the engagement and dedication of our alumni who work at Wipfli. These alumni return to campus to speak to classes, make presentations to student organizations and attend events such as today’s Dine Like a Professional Etiquette Lunch to support and engage our students.

“Our records indicate that 60 plus alumni have worked during their accounting careers with Wipfli and at least 15 students have served as interns with the organization. Currently at least 18 alumni work at Wipfli and four students were interns for the 2019 tax season…” Peacock-Landrum said.

Accepting the award from Wipfli were Dan Pichler, Karen Monfre, Sheila Fisher’07, Breann Woodruff and Jay Totzke.

At the Dine Like a Professional Etiquette Lunch on Monday, Feb. 24, 2020, UW-Green Bay Career Services announced that Imperial Supplies is its Recruitment Partner of the Year for 2019. Imperial Services has had an exceptional commitment and demonstrated comprehensive support of Career Service’s mission. Since 2011, Imperial Supplies has continued to support UW-Green Bay students in their journeys to success. Its team members have served as Mock Interview Day volunteers, participated in classroom panel discussions, made guest lecturer presentations, offered insight as featured program speakers and served on the alumni advisory board.

With headquarters in Green Bay since 1958 and only five miles from campus, local company representatives take pride in providing both time and financial support to UW-Green Bay. Imperial Supplies is an office sponsor for Career Services and a sponsor of Green Bay athletics. The organization has hosted students for job shadows, as well as welcomed students, faculty and staff onsite for informational corporate tours. Nearly 10% of all team members at Imperial’s corporate office in Green Bay are alumni of UW-Green Bay. In addition, 13 students have served as interns for Imperial since the organization launched a reputable internship program in 2018.

Linda Peacock-Landrum is in her 23rd year with UW-Green Bay Career Services, and her connection to Imperial Supplies began in her first year in Green Bay in 1997.

“That was the first year in Green Bay for both Jenny Lowe and me,” Peacock Landrum said. “We met at a local recruitment event that year, and when she transitioned to Imperial Supplies three years later, we reconnected to lay a solid foundation that our organizations could build upon.”

Lowe is the current Vice President of Human Resources for Imperial Supplies. Peacock-Landrum also sparked a connection with Sara Oettinger, a 2008 graduate of UW-Green Bay and current manager of Talent Acquisition for Imperial Supplies.

“One of my early interactions with Sara Oettinger of Imperial Supplies occurred in 2011 when she attended an event held in this very facility. She immediately offered her support and advice as an alumna to assist our students. Over the next nine years, the support, outreach and recruitment efforts by Imperial Supplies has grown,” said Peacock-Landrum. “Career Services and UW-Green Bay both are fortunate to have a partnership with Imperial Supplies. We look forward to many more engaging years in the future.”
